Masa
Masa by Kajal is an unisex eau de parfum in the niche price tier. It opens with bergamot, plum, grapefruit and ginger, moves into patchouli, watery notes, petitgrain and cardamom and dries down to vetiver, amber, vanilla, atlas cedar, guaiac wood and violet. Expect around 9 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Plum Dark, wine-like and slightly stewed. Autumnal.
- Grapefruit Bitter, slightly sweaty citrus. More grown-up than lemon.
- Ginger Warm, zesty and slightly soapy. Bridges citrus and spice.
Heart
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Watery Notes A clear, wet freshness. Less salty than a sea note.
- Petitgrain Bitter twigs and leaves of the orange tree. Dry and a little green.
- Cardamom Cool, aromatic spice with a eucalyptus lift. Smells expensive.
Dry-down
- Vetiver Dry, earthy, smoky grass root. Smells like soil and citrus peel.
- Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Atlas Cedar Smoother, resinous cedar. Warmer than the Virginia type.
- Guaiac Wood Smoky, tarry and slightly sweet. Like a bonfire and roses.
- Violet Powdery, sweet and a bit retro. Parma Violets in flower form.
