Lime Basil & Mandarin
Lime Basil & Mandarin by Jo Malone is an unisex eau de cologne from 1999 in the premium price tier. It opens with lime, mandarin and bergamot, moves into basil, lemon verbena and thyme and dries down to patchouli, vetiver and white musk. Expect around 5 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Lime Sharper and greener than lemon. Reads a bit tropical, a bit barbershop.
- Mandarin Soft, sweet, almost powdery citrus. Gentler than orange.
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
Heart
- Basil Peppery herb with an aniseed lift. Culinary but wearable.
- Lemon Verbena Lemon crossed with crushed herbs. Smells like expensive soap.
- Thyme Dry, sharp kitchen herb. Bracing and slightly antiseptic.
Dry-down
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Vetiver Dry, earthy, smoky grass root. Smells like soil and citrus peel.
- White Musk Clean, soft, laundry-like. The 'smells like nothing but better' note.
