Hugo Man
Hugo Man by Hugo Boss is a masculine-leaning eau de toilette from 1995 in the budget price tier. It opens with green apple, grapefruit and mint, moves into carnation, sage and jasmine and dries down to patchouli, cedarwood and musk. Expect around 6 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Green Apple Tart, crunchy and sharp. Cleaner and cooler than red apple.
- Grapefruit Bitter, slightly sweaty citrus. More grown-up than lemon.
- Mint Cold and tingly. Great in small doses, toothpaste in large ones.
Heart
- Carnation Spicy, clove-like floral. Old-school and a bit peppery.
- Sage Dry, herbal and slightly bitter. Adds a grown-up, aromatic edge.
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
Dry-down
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Cedarwood Dry, pencil-shaving woodiness. Clean and structural.
- Musk Warm, skin-like and slightly sweet. Makes a fragrance feel like you.
