Jicky
Jicky by Guerlain is an unisex eau de toilette from 1889 in the premium price tier. It opens with lavender, bergamot and lemon, moves into orris root, rosewood and vetiver and dries down to vanilla, tonka bean, civet and amber. Expect around 8 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Lavender Herbal, clean, slightly medicinal. Barbershop in one note.
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Lemon Clean, sour, instantly recognisable. Bright but burns off fast.
Heart
- Orris Root Iris root aged for years. Buttery, powdery, unmistakably refined.
- Rosewood Soft, rosy wood. Gentle and slightly floral.
- Vetiver Dry, earthy, smoky grass root. Smells like soil and citrus peel.
Dry-down
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Tonka Bean Almond, hay and vanilla in one. Warm and slightly nutty.
- Civet Sharp, faecal and intense on its own. In trace amounts it makes florals glow.
- Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
