Idylle
Idylle by Guerlain is a feminine-leaning eau de parfum from 2009 in the designer price tier. It opens with lily of the valley, peony, freesia and lilac, moves into jasmine and bulgarian rose and dries down to patchouli and white musk. Expect around 7 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Lily of the Valley Clean, green, dewy floral. Reads as 'fresh laundry' to most people.
- Peony Pink, watery and slightly peppery. Modern and inoffensive.
- Freesia Crisp, slightly peppery floral. Clean and a bit synthetic in a good way.
- Lilac Cool, powdery spring floral. Nostalgic and slightly soapy.
Heart
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
- Bulgarian Rose Fresh, dewy and green. The 'real rose garden' version.
Dry-down
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- White Musk Clean, soft, laundry-like. The 'smells like nothing but better' note.
