Pleasures
Pleasures by Estée Lauder is a feminine-leaning eau de parfum from 1995 in the designer price tier. It opens with lily of the valley, violet leaf and galbanum, moves into peony, jasmine, rose and lilac and dries down to sandalwood, patchouli and musk. Expect around 7 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Lily of the Valley Clean, green, dewy floral. Reads as 'fresh laundry' to most people.
- Violet Leaf Crisp, watery green with a metallic edge. Cool rather than fresh.
- Galbanum Intensely green resin. Smells like snapping a plant stem in half.
Heart
- Peony Pink, watery and slightly peppery. Modern and inoffensive.
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
- Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
- Lilac Cool, powdery spring floral. Nostalgic and slightly soapy.
Dry-down
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Musk Warm, skin-like and slightly sweet. Makes a fragrance feel like you.
