Pi
Pi by Givenchy is a masculine-leaning eau de toilette from 1998 in the designer price tier. It opens with mandarin, basil and rosemary, moves into almond, lily of the valley and geranium and dries down to vanilla, tonka bean, benzoin and cedarwood. Expect around 8 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Mandarin Soft, sweet, almost powdery citrus. Gentler than orange.
- Basil Peppery herb with an aniseed lift. Culinary but wearable.
- Rosemary Sharp, camphorous herb. Bracing and clean, borders on medicinal.
Heart
- Almond Marzipan and cherry-stone. Sweet with a bitter undertone.
- Lily of the Valley Clean, green, dewy floral. Reads as 'fresh laundry' to most people.
- Geranium Rosy and minty at once. Reads masculine more often than not.
Dry-down
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Tonka Bean Almond, hay and vanilla in one. Warm and slightly nutty.
- Benzoin Sweet balsamic resin. Vanilla-adjacent but drier.
- Cedarwood Dry, pencil-shaving woodiness. Clean and structural.
