Organza
Organza by Givenchy is a feminine-leaning eau de parfum from 1996 in the designer price tier. It opens with gardenia, galbanum and nutmeg, moves into jasmine, tuberose, iris and ylang-ylang and dries down to vanilla, amber, cedarwood and benzoin. Expect around 9 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Gardenia Creamy white floral with a mushroomy edge. Lush and old-Hollywood.
- Galbanum Intensely green resin. Smells like snapping a plant stem in half.
- Nutmeg Warm, woody and slightly sweet. Cosy without being gourmand.
Heart
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
- Tuberose Creamy, waxy and enormous. The loudest white flower.
- Iris Cool, powdery, slightly carroty and expensive. The luxury note.
- Ylang-Ylang Banana-custard floral. Rich, tropical and slightly rubbery.
Dry-down
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
- Cedarwood Dry, pencil-shaving woodiness. Clean and structural.
- Benzoin Sweet balsamic resin. Vanilla-adjacent but drier.
