Gdańsk
Gdańsk by Gallivant is an unisex eau de parfum in the niche price tier. It opens with plum, honey, cardamom, nutmeg and saffron, moves into leather, labdanum, sandalwood, patchouli, incense and rose and dries down to tobacco, cypriol, styrax, vanilla, musk and ambergris. Expect around 7 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Plum Dark, wine-like and slightly stewed. Autumnal.
- Honey Sweet, waxy and slightly animalic. Can smell dirty in large doses.
- Cardamom Cool, aromatic spice with a eucalyptus lift. Smells expensive.
- Nutmeg Warm, woody and slightly sweet. Cosy without being gourmand.
- Saffron Leathery, medicinal and slightly metallic. The signature of modern niche.
Heart
- Leather Smoky, dry and a bit animal. Can be a new jacket or an old saddle.
- Labdanum Sticky, leathery resin. Dark honey and old books.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Incense Smoky, dry and meditative. Adds gravity to anything.
- Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
Dry-down
- Tobacco Sweet, dried and honeyed. Nothing like a cigarette.
- Cypriol Also called nagarmotha. Smoky, leathery, earthy — a vetiver relative.
- Styrax Smoky, leathery balsam. Slightly rubbery and dark.
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Musk Warm, skin-like and slightly sweet. Makes a fragrance feel like you.
- Ambergris Salty, animal, sun-warmed skin. Marine and musky at once.
