Diorella
Diorella by Dior is a feminine-leaning eau de toilette from 1972 in the premium price tier. It opens with lemon, basil, bergamot and melon, moves into honeysuckle, jasmine, peach and carnation and dries down to oakmoss, patchouli, vetiver and musk. Expect around 7 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Lemon Clean, sour, instantly recognisable. Bright but burns off fast.
- Basil Peppery herb with an aniseed lift. Culinary but wearable.
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Melon Soft, watery sweetness. Often paired with aquatics.
Heart
- Honeysuckle Sweet, nectar-like and slightly green. Summer hedgerow.
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
- Peach Fuzzy, warm and slightly creamy. Soft rather than sharp.
- Carnation Spicy, clove-like floral. Old-school and a bit peppery.
Dry-down
- Oakmoss Damp forest floor. Bitter, green and the backbone of every chypre.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Vetiver Dry, earthy, smoky grass root. Smells like soil and citrus peel.
- Musk Warm, skin-like and slightly sweet. Makes a fragrance feel like you.
