Coromandel
Coromandel by Chanel is an unisex eau de parfum from 2007 in the luxury price tier. It opens with bitter orange and frankincense, moves into patchouli, rose and jasmine and dries down to benzoin, white chocolate and vanilla. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Bitter Orange Marmalade without the sugar. Sour and slightly medicinal.
- Frankincense Bright, peppery, church-like resin. Lifts and cools a fragrance.
Heart
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
Dry-down
- Benzoin Sweet balsamic resin. Vanilla-adjacent but drier.
- White Chocolate Milky, buttery and very sweet. Rounder than dark cocoa.
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
