Yatagan
Yatagan by Caron is a masculine-leaning eau de toilette from 1976 in the designer price tier. It opens with artemisia, petitgrain and bergamot, moves into pine, styrax and patchouli and dries down to leather, castoreum, vetiver and labdanum. Expect around 9 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Artemisia Bitter and silvery-herbal. Wormwood, the backbone of a fougère.
- Petitgrain Bitter twigs and leaves of the orange tree. Dry and a little green.
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
Heart
- Pine Sappy and bracing. Straightforwardly outdoorsy.
- Styrax Smoky, leathery balsam. Slightly rubbery and dark.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
Dry-down
- Leather Smoky, dry and a bit animal. Can be a new jacket or an old saddle.
- Castoreum Leathery, smoky and warm. Adds depth and a bit of danger.
- Vetiver Dry, earthy, smoky grass root. Smells like soil and citrus peel.
- Labdanum Sticky, leathery resin. Dark honey and old books.
