Havana Tonka
Havana Tonka by Byredo is an unisex extrait de parfum in the niche price tier. It opens with bergamot, rum, pink pepper and caramel, moves into tobacco, violet, cashmere wood and suede and dries down to skin musk, tonka bean, patchouli and benzoin. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Rum Boozy, sweet and warm. Adds a grown-up edge to gourmands.
- Pink Pepper Fizzy, rosy and bright. Adds sparkle without heat.
- Caramel Burnt sugar. Rich, sticky and unapologetically sweet.
Heart
- Tobacco Sweet, dried and honeyed. Nothing like a cigarette.
- Violet Powdery, sweet and a bit retro. Parma Violets in flower form.
- Cashmere Wood Soft, fuzzy, slightly musky wood. Adds a blurred warmth.
- Suede Soft, powdery leather. Much gentler than the real thing.
Dry-down
- Skin Musk Warm and intimate. Sits close and reads as 'your skin, amplified'.
- Tonka Bean Almond, hay and vanilla in one. Warm and slightly nutty.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Benzoin Sweet balsamic resin. Vanilla-adjacent but drier.
