Bleu de Chanel
Bleu de Chanel by Chanel is a masculine-leaning eau de parfum from 2014 in the premium price tier. It opens with grapefruit, lemon, mint and pink pepper, moves into ginger, nutmeg and jasmine and dries down to incense, sandalwood, cedarwood and patchouli. Expect around 9 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Grapefruit Bitter, slightly sweaty citrus. More grown-up than lemon.
- Lemon Clean, sour, instantly recognisable. Bright but burns off fast.
- Mint Cold and tingly. Great in small doses, toothpaste in large ones.
- Pink Pepper Fizzy, rosy and bright. Adds sparkle without heat.
Heart
- Ginger Warm, zesty and slightly soapy. Bridges citrus and spice.
- Nutmeg Warm, woody and slightly sweet. Cosy without being gourmand.
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
Dry-down
- Incense Smoky, dry and meditative. Adds gravity to anything.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Cedarwood Dry, pencil-shaving woodiness. Clean and structural.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
