Citrus Riviera by BDK Parfums is an unisex eau de parfum from 2019 in the niche price tier. It opens with neroli, mandarin, lemon and fig, moves into orange blossom, jasmine, strawberry, eucalyptus and immortelle and dries down to white musk, patchouli, haitian vetiver and tonka bean. Expect around 6 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Neroli Distilled orange blossom. Green, soapy and elegant.
- Mandarin Soft, sweet, almost powdery citrus. Gentler than orange.
- Lemon Clean, sour, instantly recognisable. Bright but burns off fast.
- Fig Green, milky and jammy at once. One of the most interesting fruits in perfume.
Heart
- Orange Blossom Sweet, soapy and sunny. Neroli's warmer sibling.
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
- Strawberry Sweet and candied. Rarely smells like the real fruit.
- Eucalyptus Sharp, camphorous, clears the head. Reads as clean more than green.
- Immortelle Maple syrup, curry and hay. Genuinely strange and very distinctive.
Dry-down
- White Musk Clean, soft, laundry-like. The 'smells like nothing but better' note.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Haitian Vetiver Cleaner, smokier vetiver with a grapefruit lift. Less earthy than Javan.
- Tonka Bean Almond, hay and vanilla in one. Warm and slightly nutty.
