Vent Vert
Vent Vert by Balmain is a feminine-leaning eau de toilette from 1947 in the designer price tier. It opens with galbanum, lime and basil, moves into hyacinth, lily of the valley and rose and dries down to oakmoss, sandalwood and musk. Expect around 5 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Galbanum Intensely green resin. Smells like snapping a plant stem in half.
- Lime Sharper and greener than lemon. Reads a bit tropical, a bit barbershop.
- Basil Peppery herb with an aniseed lift. Culinary but wearable.
Heart
- Hyacinth Cold, green, watery floral. Smells like early spring.
- Lily of the Valley Clean, green, dewy floral. Reads as 'fresh laundry' to most people.
- Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
Dry-down
- Oakmoss Damp forest floor. Bitter, green and the backbone of every chypre.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Musk Warm, skin-like and slightly sweet. Makes a fragrance feel like you.
