Sacred Flame

Sacred Flame by Argos is an unisex eau de parfum in the luxury price tier. It opens with bergamot, grapefruit, peach, mandarin, ginger and clove, moves into rose, tuberose, violet, jasmine, cinnamon and orris root and dries down to amber, vetiver, cashmere wood, mysore sandalwood, benzoin and opoponax. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.

Opening

Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
Grapefruit Bitter, slightly sweaty citrus. More grown-up than lemon.
Peach Fuzzy, warm and slightly creamy. Soft rather than sharp.
Mandarin Soft, sweet, almost powdery citrus. Gentler than orange.
Ginger Warm, zesty and slightly soapy. Bridges citrus and spice.
Clove Hot, dry and dental. Powerful — a little goes a long way.

Heart

Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
Tuberose Creamy, waxy and enormous. The loudest white flower.
Violet Powdery, sweet and a bit retro. Parma Violets in flower form.
Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
Cinnamon Sweet heat. Reads festive, sometimes to a fault.
Orris Root Iris root aged for years. Buttery, powdery, unmistakably refined.

Dry-down

Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
Vetiver Dry, earthy, smoky grass root. Smells like soil and citrus peel.
Cashmere Wood Soft, fuzzy, slightly musky wood. Adds a blurred warmth.
Mysore Sandalwood The legendary Indian sandalwood. Richer and butterier than any substitute.
Benzoin Sweet balsamic resin. Vanilla-adjacent but drier.
Opoponax Sweet myrrh. Balsamic, warm and slightly medicinal.
