Pallas Athene
Pallas Athene by Argos is a feminine-leaning eau de parfum in the luxury price tier. It opens with bergamot, red berries, grapefruit and pink pepper, moves into peony, violet and rose and dries down to iris, mysore sandalwood, amber, vetiver, patchouli and vanilla. Expect around 8 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Red Berries Generic jammy berry blend. Bright, sweet and crowd-pleasing.
- Grapefruit Bitter, slightly sweaty citrus. More grown-up than lemon.
- Pink Pepper Fizzy, rosy and bright. Adds sparkle without heat.
Heart
- Peony Pink, watery and slightly peppery. Modern and inoffensive.
- Violet Powdery, sweet and a bit retro. Parma Violets in flower form.
- Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
Dry-down
- Iris Cool, powdery, slightly carroty and expensive. The luxury note.
- Mysore Sandalwood The legendary Indian sandalwood. Richer and butterier than any substitute.
- Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
- Vetiver Dry, earthy, smoky grass root. Smells like soil and citrus peel.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
