Dia Woman
Dia Woman by Amouage is a feminine-leaning eau de parfum in the luxury price tier. It opens with fig, cyclamen, bergamot, tarragon, sage and violet, moves into peach, rose, orange blossom, peony and iris and dries down to white musk, frankincense, vanilla, heliotrope, cedarwood and sandalwood. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Fig Green, milky and jammy at once. One of the most interesting fruits in perfume.
- Cyclamen Watery, green and airy. Used to make florals feel light.
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Tarragon Anise-tinged and green. Adds a herbal lift to barbershop scents.
- Sage Dry, herbal and slightly bitter. Adds a grown-up, aromatic edge.
- Violet Powdery, sweet and a bit retro. Parma Violets in flower form.
Heart
- Peach Fuzzy, warm and slightly creamy. Soft rather than sharp.
- Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
- Orange Blossom Sweet, soapy and sunny. Neroli's warmer sibling.
- Peony Pink, watery and slightly peppery. Modern and inoffensive.
- Iris Cool, powdery, slightly carroty and expensive. The luxury note.
Dry-down
- White Musk Clean, soft, laundry-like. The 'smells like nothing but better' note.
- Frankincense Bright, peppery, church-like resin. Lifts and cools a fragrance.
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Heliotrope Almond, vanilla and powder. Smells like marzipan and old-fashioned makeup.
- Cedarwood Dry, pencil-shaving woodiness. Clean and structural.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
