Portrait Revival
Portrait Revival by Afnan is an unisex eau de parfum in the budget price tier. It opens with cinnamon, honey, saffron and incense, moves into tonka bean, oakwood and praline and dries down to dates, sandalwood, caramel and chocolate. Expect around 8 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Cinnamon Sweet heat. Reads festive, sometimes to a fault.
- Honey Sweet, waxy and slightly animalic. Can smell dirty in large doses.
- Saffron Leathery, medicinal and slightly metallic. The signature of modern niche.
- Incense Smoky, dry and meditative. Adds gravity to anything.
Heart
- Tonka Bean Almond, hay and vanilla in one. Warm and slightly nutty.
- Oakwood Dry, toasty barrel wood. Closer to a whisky cask than a forest.
- Praline Caramelised nuts. Sweet, toasty and very moreish.
Dry-down
- Dates Sticky, jammy dried fruit. The backbone of Middle Eastern gourmands.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Caramel Burnt sugar. Rich, sticky and unapologetically sweet.
- Chocolate Sweet, dusty and rich. Can go milk-bar or dark-and-bitter.
