Rhinoceros
Rhinoceros by Zoologist is an unisex eau de parfum in the niche price tier. It opens with pink pepper, whiskey, coffee, rum and basil, moves into leather, incense, tobacco, hay and ylang-ylang and dries down to oud, patchouli, cypriol, oakmoss and amber. Expect around 8 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Pink Pepper Fizzy, rosy and bright. Adds sparkle without heat.
- Whiskey Boozy, oaky, a little smoky. Warmth you can almost taste.
- Coffee Roasted, bitter and dark. Adds edge to sweet fragrances.
- Rum Boozy, sweet and warm. Adds a grown-up edge to gourmands.
- Basil Peppery herb with an aniseed lift. Culinary but wearable.
Heart
- Leather Smoky, dry and a bit animal. Can be a new jacket or an old saddle.
- Incense Smoky, dry and meditative. Adds gravity to anything.
- Tobacco Sweet, dried and honeyed. Nothing like a cigarette.
- Hay Sun-dried grass and tonka. Warm, rustic and comforting.
- Ylang-Ylang Banana-custard floral. Rich, tropical and slightly rubbery.
Dry-down
- Oud Resinous, medicinal, barnyard-adjacent wood. The most expensive note in perfumery.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Cypriol Also called nagarmotha. Smoky, leathery, earthy — a vetiver relative.
- Oakmoss Damp forest floor. Bitter, green and the backbone of every chypre.
- Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
