Aurum
Aurum by Xerjoff is an unisex parfum in the luxury price tier. It opens with bergamot, sweet orange, bulgarian rose and lemon, moves into chocolate, labdanum, incense and strawberry and dries down to heliotrope, oakmoss, oud, patchouli and vanilla. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Sweet Orange Juicy and cheerful. The friendliest citrus there is.
- Bulgarian Rose Fresh, dewy and green. The 'real rose garden' version.
- Lemon Clean, sour, instantly recognisable. Bright but burns off fast.
Heart
- Chocolate Sweet, dusty and rich. Can go milk-bar or dark-and-bitter.
- Labdanum Sticky, leathery resin. Dark honey and old books.
- Incense Smoky, dry and meditative. Adds gravity to anything.
- Strawberry Sweet and candied. Rarely smells like the real fruit.
Dry-down
- Heliotrope Almond, vanilla and powder. Smells like marzipan and old-fashioned makeup.
- Oakmoss Damp forest floor. Bitter, green and the backbone of every chypre.
- Oud Resinous, medicinal, barnyard-adjacent wood. The most expensive note in perfumery.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
