Noir Extreme
Noir Extreme by Tom Ford is a masculine-leaning eau de parfum from 2015 in the luxury price tier. It opens with cardamom, nutmeg and mandarin, moves into rose, jasmine and orange blossom and dries down to vanilla, sandalwood and amber. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects very strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Cardamom Cool, aromatic spice with a eucalyptus lift. Smells expensive.
- Nutmeg Warm, woody and slightly sweet. Cosy without being gourmand.
- Mandarin Soft, sweet, almost powdery citrus. Gentler than orange.
Heart
- Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
- Orange Blossom Sweet, soapy and sunny. Neroli's warmer sibling.
Dry-down
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
