A*Men
A*Men by Mugler is a masculine-leaning eau de toilette from 1996 in the designer price tier. It opens with mint, lavender and bergamot, moves into caramel, honey and coffee and dries down to patchouli, vanilla, tonka bean and tar. Expect around 11 hours of wear, and it projects very strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Mint Cold and tingly. Great in small doses, toothpaste in large ones.
- Lavender Herbal, clean, slightly medicinal. Barbershop in one note.
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
Heart
- Caramel Burnt sugar. Rich, sticky and unapologetically sweet.
- Honey Sweet, waxy and slightly animalic. Can smell dirty in large doses.
- Coffee Roasted, bitter and dark. Adds edge to sweet fragrances.
Dry-down
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Tonka Bean Almond, hay and vanilla in one. Warm and slightly nutty.
- Tar Black, rubbery and industrial. Uncompromising.
