Endymion
Endymion by Penhaligon's is a masculine-leaning eau de cologne from 2003 in the premium price tier. It opens with mandarin, sage and lavender, moves into coffee, nutmeg and cardamom and dries down to vetiver, leather, incense and vanilla. Expect around 7 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Mandarin Soft, sweet, almost powdery citrus. Gentler than orange.
- Sage Dry, herbal and slightly bitter. Adds a grown-up, aromatic edge.
- Lavender Herbal, clean, slightly medicinal. Barbershop in one note.
Heart
- Coffee Roasted, bitter and dark. Adds edge to sweet fragrances.
- Nutmeg Warm, woody and slightly sweet. Cosy without being gourmand.
- Cardamom Cool, aromatic spice with a eucalyptus lift. Smells expensive.
Dry-down
- Vetiver Dry, earthy, smoky grass root. Smells like soil and citrus peel.
- Leather Smoky, dry and a bit animal. Can be a new jacket or an old saddle.
- Incense Smoky, dry and meditative. Adds gravity to anything.
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
