New York Intense by Parfums de Nicolaï is an unisex eau de parfum in the premium price tier. It opens with petitgrain, bergamot, lemon, thyme and artemisia, moves into black pepper, clove, cinnamon, lavender and chamomile and dries down to oakmoss, tonka bean, styrax, incense and musk. Expect around 8 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.

Opening
- Petitgrain Bitter twigs and leaves of the orange tree. Dry and a little green.
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Lemon Clean, sour, instantly recognisable. Bright but burns off fast.
- Thyme Dry, sharp kitchen herb. Bracing and slightly antiseptic.
- Artemisia Bitter and silvery-herbal. Wormwood, the backbone of a fougère.
Heart
- Black Pepper Dry and prickly. Gives a fragrance grip and a bit of bite.
- Clove Hot, dry and dental. Powerful — a little goes a long way.
- Cinnamon Sweet heat. Reads festive, sometimes to a fault.
- Lavender Herbal, clean, slightly medicinal. Barbershop in one note.
- Chamomile Herbal, apple-like and calming. Quiet and a bit hay-ish.
Dry-down
- Oakmoss Damp forest floor. Bitter, green and the backbone of every chypre.
- Tonka Bean Almond, hay and vanilla in one. Warm and slightly nutty.
- Styrax Smoky, leathery balsam. Slightly rubbery and dark.
- Incense Smoky, dry and meditative. Adds gravity to anything.
- Musk Warm, skin-like and slightly sweet. Makes a fragrance feel like you.
