Vetiveria
Vetiveria by Ormonde Jayne is an unisex eau de parfum in the niche price tier. It opens with sichuan pepper, sage, juniper berry and lime, moves into lavender, jasmine and orange blossom and dries down to vetiver, oakmoss, labdanum and tonka bean. Expect around 8 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Sichuan Pepper Buzzy, citrus-tinged pepper. Tingles rather than burns.
- Sage Dry, herbal and slightly bitter. Adds a grown-up, aromatic edge.
- Juniper Berry Gin, basically. Piney, dry and bracing.
- Lime Sharper and greener than lemon. Reads a bit tropical, a bit barbershop.
Heart
- Lavender Herbal, clean, slightly medicinal. Barbershop in one note.
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
- Orange Blossom Sweet, soapy and sunny. Neroli's warmer sibling.
Dry-down
- Vetiver Dry, earthy, smoky grass root. Smells like soil and citrus peel.
- Oakmoss Damp forest floor. Bitter, green and the backbone of every chypre.
- Labdanum Sticky, leathery resin. Dark honey and old books.
- Tonka Bean Almond, hay and vanilla in one. Warm and slightly nutty.
Smells like this
- Atelier Cologne Vanille Insensée
- Roja Parfums Danger Pour Homme
- Chanel 31 Rue Cambon
- Miller Harris Vetiver Insolent
- Yves Saint Laurent La Nuit de L'Homme
- Guerlain Mitsouko
