Patchouli d'Atlas
Patchouli d'Atlas by Ormonde Jayne is an unisex eau de parfum in the niche price tier. It opens with pink pepper, cardamom, lemon and saffron, moves into cedarwood, amber, cashmeran and akigalawood and dries down to patchouli, ambroxan, musk and sandalwood. Expect around 8 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Pink Pepper Fizzy, rosy and bright. Adds sparkle without heat.
- Cardamom Cool, aromatic spice with a eucalyptus lift. Smells expensive.
- Lemon Clean, sour, instantly recognisable. Bright but burns off fast.
- Saffron Leathery, medicinal and slightly metallic. The signature of modern niche.
Heart
- Cedarwood Dry, pencil-shaving woodiness. Clean and structural.
- Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
- Cashmeran Musky, woody and slightly spicy. Velvety and very persistent.
- Akigalawood Patchouli with the earth taken out. Peppery, lightly spiced dry wood that makes a base feel expensive.
Dry-down
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Ambroxan Clean, mineral, skin-like warmth. The engine behind most modern 'beast mode' scents.
- Musk Warm, skin-like and slightly sweet. Makes a fragrance feel like you.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
