Oud Liaisons
Oud Liaisons by Ormonde Jayne is an unisex eau de parfum in the niche price tier. It opens with rose, lemon, licorice and pink pepper, moves into oud, suede and guaiac wood and dries down to patchouli, musk, cypriol and vanilla. Expect around 8 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
- Lemon Clean, sour, instantly recognisable. Bright but burns off fast.
- Licorice Sweet anise with a dark, salty edge. Divisive and distinctive.
- Pink Pepper Fizzy, rosy and bright. Adds sparkle without heat.
Heart
- Oud Resinous, medicinal, barnyard-adjacent wood. The most expensive note in perfumery.
- Suede Soft, powdery leather. Much gentler than the real thing.
- Guaiac Wood Smoky, tarry and slightly sweet. Like a bonfire and roses.
Dry-down
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Musk Warm, skin-like and slightly sweet. Makes a fragrance feel like you.
- Cypriol Also called nagarmotha. Smoky, leathery, earthy — a vetiver relative.
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
