Nefs
Nefs by Nishane is an unisex extrait de parfum in the niche price tier. It opens with honey, violet, sage, saffron and fig, moves into rose, osmanthus, geranium, jasmine and nutmeg and dries down to amber, whiskey, oud, cinnamon, cedarwood and leather. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Honey Sweet, waxy and slightly animalic. Can smell dirty in large doses.
- Violet Powdery, sweet and a bit retro. Parma Violets in flower form.
- Sage Dry, herbal and slightly bitter. Adds a grown-up, aromatic edge.
- Saffron Leathery, medicinal and slightly metallic. The signature of modern niche.
- Fig Green, milky and jammy at once. One of the most interesting fruits in perfume.
Heart
- Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
- Osmanthus Apricot-and-leather floral. Unusual, warm and very wearable.
- Geranium Rosy and minty at once. Reads masculine more often than not.
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
- Nutmeg Warm, woody and slightly sweet. Cosy without being gourmand.
Dry-down
- Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
- Whiskey Boozy, oaky, a little smoky. Warmth you can almost taste.
- Oud Resinous, medicinal, barnyard-adjacent wood. The most expensive note in perfumery.
- Cinnamon Sweet heat. Reads festive, sometimes to a fault.
- Cedarwood Dry, pencil-shaving woodiness. Clean and structural.
- Leather Smoky, dry and a bit animal. Can be a new jacket or an old saddle.
