Nanshe
Nanshe by Nishane is a feminine-leaning extrait de parfum in the niche price tier. It opens with bergamot, carrot seed, cardamom and yuzu, moves into rose, sambac jasmine and ylang-ylang and dries down to orris root, powdery notes, musk, patchouli and sandalwood. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Carrot Seed Earthy, rooty and oddly powdery. Often used to echo iris.
- Cardamom Cool, aromatic spice with a eucalyptus lift. Smells expensive.
- Yuzu Japanese citrus — like grapefruit and mandarin crossed. Crisp and clean.
Heart
- Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
- Sambac Jasmine Greener, more tea-like jasmine. Less indolic than grandiflorum.
- Ylang-Ylang Banana-custard floral. Rich, tropical and slightly rubbery.
Dry-down
- Orris Root Iris root aged for years. Buttery, powdery, unmistakably refined.
- Powdery Notes Soft, dusty and cosmetic. The feel of face powder more than any one flower.
- Musk Warm, skin-like and slightly sweet. Makes a fragrance feel like you.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
