Ani X
Ani X by Nishane is an unisex extrait de parfum in the niche price tier. It opens with bergamot, lemon, melon, cardamom, ginger and pink pepper, moves into lavender, sage, green apple, blackcurrant, rose and patchouli and dries down to cedarwood, cashmere wood, vanilla, ambergris, white musk and sandalwood. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Lemon Clean, sour, instantly recognisable. Bright but burns off fast.
- Melon Soft, watery sweetness. Often paired with aquatics.
- Cardamom Cool, aromatic spice with a eucalyptus lift. Smells expensive.
- Ginger Warm, zesty and slightly soapy. Bridges citrus and spice.
- Pink Pepper Fizzy, rosy and bright. Adds sparkle without heat.
Heart
- Lavender Herbal, clean, slightly medicinal. Barbershop in one note.
- Sage Dry, herbal and slightly bitter. Adds a grown-up, aromatic edge.
- Green Apple Tart, crunchy and sharp. Cleaner and cooler than red apple.
- Blackcurrant Tart, dark and slightly catty. Adds bite to florals.
- Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
Dry-down
- Cedarwood Dry, pencil-shaving woodiness. Clean and structural.
- Cashmere Wood Soft, fuzzy, slightly musky wood. Adds a blurred warmth.
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Ambergris Salty, animal, sun-warmed skin. Marine and musky at once.
- White Musk Clean, soft, laundry-like. The 'smells like nothing but better' note.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
