B*Men
B*Men by Mugler is a masculine-leaning eau de toilette from 2000 in the designer price tier. It opens with black pepper, bergamot and gin, moves into chocolate, coffee, caramel and licorice and dries down to patchouli, vetiver and musk. Expect around 9 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Black Pepper Dry and prickly. Gives a fragrance grip and a bit of bite.
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Gin Juniper and citrus peel with an alcoholic sting.
Heart
- Chocolate Sweet, dusty and rich. Can go milk-bar or dark-and-bitter.
- Coffee Roasted, bitter and dark. Adds edge to sweet fragrances.
- Caramel Burnt sugar. Rich, sticky and unapologetically sweet.
- Licorice Sweet anise with a dark, salty edge. Divisive and distinctive.
Dry-down
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Vetiver Dry, earthy, smoky grass root. Smells like soil and citrus peel.
- Musk Warm, skin-like and slightly sweet. Makes a fragrance feel like you.
