Rose Elixir

Rose Elixir by Montale is an unisex eau de parfum in the niche price tier. It opens with mandarin, sweet orange, bergamot, coconut and peach, moves into rose, orange blossom, jasmine, violet and patchouli and dries down to musk, oakmoss, brown sugar and amber. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects very strongly.

Opening

Mandarin Soft, sweet, almost powdery citrus. Gentler than orange.
Sweet Orange Juicy and cheerful. The friendliest citrus there is.
Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
Coconut Creamy and tropical. Suncream in the best possible way.
Peach Fuzzy, warm and slightly creamy. Soft rather than sharp.

Heart

Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
Orange Blossom Sweet, soapy and sunny. Neroli's warmer sibling.
Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
Violet Powdery, sweet and a bit retro. Parma Violets in flower form.
Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.

Dry-down

Musk Warm, skin-like and slightly sweet. Makes a fragrance feel like you.
Oakmoss Damp forest floor. Bitter, green and the backbone of every chypre.
Brown Sugar Molasses-rich sweetness. Warmer and deeper than white sugar.
Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
