Oudrising

Oudrising by Montale is an unisex eau de parfum in the niche price tier. It opens with leather, bergamot and grapefruit, moves into rose, jasmine, oud, patchouli, labdanum and black tea and dries down to sandalwood, cedarwood, amber, musk, incense and vanilla. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects very strongly.

Opening

Leather Smoky, dry and a bit animal. Can be a new jacket or an old saddle.
Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
Grapefruit Bitter, slightly sweaty citrus. More grown-up than lemon.

Heart

Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
Oud Resinous, medicinal, barnyard-adjacent wood. The most expensive note in perfumery.
Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
Labdanum Sticky, leathery resin. Dark honey and old books.
Black Tea Dry, tannic and smoky. More astringent than green tea.

Dry-down

Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
Cedarwood Dry, pencil-shaving woodiness. Clean and structural.
Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
Musk Warm, skin-like and slightly sweet. Makes a fragrance feel like you.
Incense Smoky, dry and meditative. Adds gravity to anything.
Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
