Oud Tobacco
Oud Tobacco by Montale is an unisex eau de parfum in the niche price tier. It opens with lemon, black pepper, clove and cumin, moves into tobacco, incense, orange blossom and patchouli and dries down to oud, ambergris, sandalwood, musk and tonka bean. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects very strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Lemon Clean, sour, instantly recognisable. Bright but burns off fast.
- Black Pepper Dry and prickly. Gives a fragrance grip and a bit of bite.
- Clove Hot, dry and dental. Powerful — a little goes a long way.
- Cumin Warm, spicy and unmistakably sweaty. Divides rooms.
Heart
- Tobacco Sweet, dried and honeyed. Nothing like a cigarette.
- Incense Smoky, dry and meditative. Adds gravity to anything.
- Orange Blossom Sweet, soapy and sunny. Neroli's warmer sibling.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
Dry-down
- Oud Resinous, medicinal, barnyard-adjacent wood. The most expensive note in perfumery.
- Ambergris Salty, animal, sun-warmed skin. Marine and musky at once.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Musk Warm, skin-like and slightly sweet. Makes a fragrance feel like you.
- Tonka Bean Almond, hay and vanilla in one. Warm and slightly nutty.
