Aqua Palma

Aqua Palma by Montale is an unisex eau de parfum in the niche price tier. It opens with mandarin, bergamot, cardamom and peach, moves into tuberose, rose, ginger, sandalwood, cedarwood and iris and dries down to teakwood, amber, vanilla and tonka bean. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects very strongly.

Opening

Mandarin Soft, sweet, almost powdery citrus. Gentler than orange.
Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
Cardamom Cool, aromatic spice with a eucalyptus lift. Smells expensive.
Peach Fuzzy, warm and slightly creamy. Soft rather than sharp.

Heart

Tuberose Creamy, waxy and enormous. The loudest white flower.
Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
Ginger Warm, zesty and slightly soapy. Bridges citrus and spice.
Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
Cedarwood Dry, pencil-shaving woodiness. Clean and structural.
Iris Cool, powdery, slightly carroty and expensive. The luxury note.

Dry-down

Teakwood Warm, dry and slightly smoky. Furniture-shop woodiness.
Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
Tonka Bean Almond, hay and vanilla in one. Warm and slightly nutty.
