Amber & Spices by Montale is an unisex eau de parfum in the niche price tier. It opens with nutmeg, saffron, clove and lemon, moves into rose, geranium and oud and dries down to sandalwood, amber, patchouli, musk and guaiac wood. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects very strongly.

Opening
- Nutmeg Warm, woody and slightly sweet. Cosy without being gourmand.
- Saffron Leathery, medicinal and slightly metallic. The signature of modern niche.
- Clove Hot, dry and dental. Powerful — a little goes a long way.
- Lemon Clean, sour, instantly recognisable. Bright but burns off fast.
Heart
- Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
- Geranium Rosy and minty at once. Reads masculine more often than not.
- Oud Resinous, medicinal, barnyard-adjacent wood. The most expensive note in perfumery.
Dry-down
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Musk Warm, skin-like and slightly sweet. Makes a fragrance feel like you.
- Guaiac Wood Smoky, tarry and slightly sweet. Like a bonfire and roses.
