It opens with bergamot, mandarin and elemi, moves into orris butter, incense, cashmere wood and styrax and dries down to patchouli, vetiver, leather, amber, birch and labdanum. Opening

Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
Mandarin Soft, sweet, almost powdery citrus. Gentler than orange.
Elemi Peppery resin with a lemon-pine lift. Bright and dry.

Heart

Orris Butter The expensive form of iris. Cold, buttery, faintly carrot and violet.
Incense Smoky, dry and meditative. Adds gravity to anything.
Cashmere Wood Soft, fuzzy, slightly musky wood. Adds a blurred warmth.
Styrax Smoky, leathery balsam. Slightly rubbery and dark.

Dry-down

Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
Vetiver Dry, earthy, smoky grass root. Smells like soil and citrus peel.
Leather Smoky, dry and a bit animal. Can be a new jacket or an old saddle.
Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
Birch Clean pale wood. The leaves, not the tar.
Labdanum Sticky, leathery resin. Dark honey and old books.
