Grapefruit
Grapefruit by Jo Malone is an unisex eau de cologne from 1990 in the premium price tier. It opens with grapefruit and mandarin, moves into jasmine, pimento, peppermint and rosemary and dries down to patchouli, vetiver and oakmoss. Expect around 4 hours of wear, and it projects softly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Grapefruit Bitter, slightly sweaty citrus. More grown-up than lemon.
- Mandarin Soft, sweet, almost powdery citrus. Gentler than orange.
Heart
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
- Pimento Allspice — clove, cinnamon and nutmeg at once. Hot and rounded.
- Peppermint Icy and sharp. Reads clean but can tip into chewing gum.
- Rosemary Sharp, camphorous herb. Bracing and clean, borders on medicinal.
Dry-down
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Vetiver Dry, earthy, smoky grass root. Smells like soil and citrus peel.
- Oakmoss Damp forest floor. Bitter, green and the backbone of every chypre.
Smells like this

- Dior Eau Sauvage
