Rocabar
Rocabar by Hermès is a masculine-leaning eau de toilette from 1998 in the premium price tier. It opens with bergamot, cinnamon and pink pepper, moves into honey, clove, rose and patchouli and dries down to amber, benzoin, musk and sandalwood. Expect around 7 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Cinnamon Sweet heat. Reads festive, sometimes to a fault.
- Pink Pepper Fizzy, rosy and bright. Adds sparkle without heat.
Heart
- Honey Sweet, waxy and slightly animalic. Can smell dirty in large doses.
- Clove Hot, dry and dental. Powerful — a little goes a long way.
- Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
Dry-down
- Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
- Benzoin Sweet balsamic resin. Vanilla-adjacent but drier.
- Musk Warm, skin-like and slightly sweet. Makes a fragrance feel like you.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
