L'Eau d'Hiver
L'Eau d'Hiver by Frédéric Malle is an unisex eau de toilette from 2003 in the luxury price tier. It opens with bergamot and angelica, moves into heliotrope, hawthorn and honey and dries down to iris and white musk. Expect around 5 hours of wear, and it projects softly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Angelica Musky, herbal root. Earthy and a bit strange.
Heart
- Heliotrope Almond, vanilla and powder. Smells like marzipan and old-fashioned makeup.
- Hawthorn Almondy white blossom. Slightly powdery and hedgerow-like.
- Honey Sweet, waxy and slightly animalic. Can smell dirty in large doses.
Dry-down
- Iris Cool, powdery, slightly carroty and expensive. The luxury note.
- White Musk Clean, soft, laundry-like. The 'smells like nothing but better' note.
