Magnetism
Magnetism by Escada is a feminine-leaning eau de parfum from 2003 in the designer price tier. It opens with blackcurrant, pineapple and lychee, moves into jasmine, magnolia and heliotrope and dries down to vanilla, amber, musk and patchouli. Expect around 8 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Blackcurrant Tart, dark and slightly catty. Adds bite to florals.
- Pineapple Tangy, boozy and tropical. Loud and hard to hide.
- Lychee Rosy, watery and delicate. Sweet without being heavy.
Heart
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
- Magnolia Lemony white floral. Bright and clean rather than heavy.
- Heliotrope Almond, vanilla and powder. Smells like marzipan and old-fashioned makeup.
Dry-down
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
- Musk Warm, skin-like and slightly sweet. Makes a fragrance feel like you.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
