Sauvage
Sauvage by Dior is a masculine-leaning eau de parfum from 2018 in the designer price tier. It opens with bergamot and mandarin, moves into sichuan pepper, star anise and nutmeg and dries down to ambroxan, vanilla and tonka bean. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects very strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Mandarin Soft, sweet, almost powdery citrus. Gentler than orange.
Heart
- Sichuan Pepper Buzzy, citrus-tinged pepper. Tingles rather than burns.
- Star Anise Liquorice-like and cool. Sweet but not sugary.
- Nutmeg Warm, woody and slightly sweet. Cosy without being gourmand.
Dry-down
- Ambroxan Clean, mineral, skin-like warmth. The engine behind most modern 'beast mode' scents.
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Tonka Bean Almond, hay and vanilla in one. Warm and slightly nutty.
