Dolce Vita
Dolce Vita by Dior is a feminine-leaning eau de toilette from 1994 in the designer price tier. It opens with peach, apricot and bergamot, moves into heliotrope, magnolia, cinnamon and ylang-ylang and dries down to sandalwood, vanilla and cedarwood. Expect around 7 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Peach Fuzzy, warm and slightly creamy. Soft rather than sharp.
- Apricot Warm, jammy stone fruit. Often hiding inside osmanthus.
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
Heart
- Heliotrope Almond, vanilla and powder. Smells like marzipan and old-fashioned makeup.
- Magnolia Lemony white floral. Bright and clean rather than heavy.
- Cinnamon Sweet heat. Reads festive, sometimes to a fault.
- Ylang-Ylang Banana-custard floral. Rich, tropical and slightly rubbery.
Dry-down
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Cedarwood Dry, pencil-shaving woodiness. Clean and structural.
