Virgin Island Water
Virgin Island Water by Creed is an unisex eau de parfum from 2007 in the luxury price tier. It opens with lime, bergamot and mandarin, moves into coconut, ylang-ylang and sugar and dries down to white musk, rum and amber. Expect around 6 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Lime Sharper and greener than lemon. Reads a bit tropical, a bit barbershop.
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Mandarin Soft, sweet, almost powdery citrus. Gentler than orange.
Heart
- Coconut Creamy and tropical. Suncream in the best possible way.
- Ylang-Ylang Banana-custard floral. Rich, tropical and slightly rubbery.
- Sugar Plain sweetness. Usually there to round the edges off something else.
Dry-down
- White Musk Clean, soft, laundry-like. The 'smells like nothing but better' note.
- Rum Boozy, sweet and warm. Adds a grown-up edge to gourmands.
- Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
Smells like this
- Giardini di Toscana Borabora
- Davidoff Cool Water Intense
- Frédéric Malle Monsieur.
- Giorgio Armani My Way Sunny Vanilla
- Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess
