Royal Water
Royal Water by Creed is an unisex eau de parfum from 1997 in the luxury price tier. It opens with bergamot, clementine, lemon, mandarin, peppermint and lemon verbena, moves into basil, cumin, black pepper and pink pepper and dries down to ambergris and musk. Expect around 5 hours of wear, and it projects softly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Clementine Small, sweet and a bit candied. Very easy to wear.
- Lemon Clean, sour, instantly recognisable. Bright but burns off fast.
- Mandarin Soft, sweet, almost powdery citrus. Gentler than orange.
- Peppermint Icy and sharp. Reads clean but can tip into chewing gum.
- Lemon Verbena Lemon crossed with crushed herbs. Smells like expensive soap.
Heart
- Basil Peppery herb with an aniseed lift. Culinary but wearable.
- Cumin Warm, spicy and unmistakably sweaty. Divides rooms.
- Black Pepper Dry and prickly. Gives a fragrance grip and a bit of bite.
- Pink Pepper Fizzy, rosy and bright. Adds sparkle without heat.
Dry-down
- Ambergris Salty, animal, sun-warmed skin. Marine and musky at once.
- Musk Warm, skin-like and slightly sweet. Makes a fragrance feel like you.
