Aventus
Aventus by Creed is a masculine-leaning eau de parfum from 2010 in the luxury price tier. It opens with pineapple, blackcurrant, bergamot and apple, moves into birch tar, patchouli, jasmine and rose and dries down to musk, oakmoss, ambergris and vanilla. Expect around 9 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Pineapple Tangy, boozy and tropical. Loud and hard to hide.
- Blackcurrant Tart, dark and slightly catty. Adds bite to florals.
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Apple Crunchy and tart or soft and red, depending on the treatment.
Heart
- Birch Tar Smoked, tarry and campfire-like. The classic way to build leather.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
- Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
Dry-down
- Musk Warm, skin-like and slightly sweet. Makes a fragrance feel like you.
- Oakmoss Damp forest floor. Bitter, green and the backbone of every chypre.
- Ambergris Salty, animal, sun-warmed skin. Marine and musky at once.
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
