Santal Carmin
Santal Carmin by Atelier Cologne is an unisex eau de cologne from 2012 in the premium price tier. It opens with bergamot, lime and saffron, moves into sandalwood, guaiac wood and white musk and dries down to papyrus, cedarwood and vanilla. Expect around 7 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Lime Sharper and greener than lemon. Reads a bit tropical, a bit barbershop.
- Saffron Leathery, medicinal and slightly metallic. The signature of modern niche.
Heart
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Guaiac Wood Smoky, tarry and slightly sweet. Like a bonfire and roses.
- White Musk Clean, soft, laundry-like. The 'smells like nothing but better' note.
Dry-down
- Papyrus Dry, smoky, papery wood. Vetiver's quieter cousin.
- Cedarwood Dry, pencil-shaving woodiness. Clean and structural.
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
Smells like this
- Parfums de Nicolaï Crème Ebène
- Jean Paul Gaultier Le Beau
