Mandarine Glaciale
Mandarine Glaciale by Atelier Cologne is an unisex eau de cologne from 2014 in the premium price tier. It opens with mandarin, lemon and bergamot, moves into ginger, jasmine and petitgrain and dries down to haitian vetiver, oakmoss and amber. Expect around 5 hours of wear, and it projects softly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Mandarin Soft, sweet, almost powdery citrus. Gentler than orange.
- Lemon Clean, sour, instantly recognisable. Bright but burns off fast.
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
Heart
- Ginger Warm, zesty and slightly soapy. Bridges citrus and spice.
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
- Petitgrain Bitter twigs and leaves of the orange tree. Dry and a little green.
Dry-down
- Haitian Vetiver Cleaner, smokier vetiver with a grapefruit lift. Less earthy than Javan.
- Oakmoss Damp forest floor. Bitter, green and the backbone of every chypre.
- Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
